Mackinaw Island

While I was away in Utah for my nephew's wedding, Jake was sweet enough to plan a quick getaway for me and the boys to Mackinaw Island. It's this cool little island, about 4 hours away from where we live, that has only transportation of horse and buggy, bicycle, or by foot, with a Victorian image. There is a continual boat service that takes guests to and from the island. It was such a unique place and is so beautiful...never seen anything like it. We only stayed for a couple of nights because we weren't exactly prepared for the cold, wet, rainy weather. We definitely will go back when the weather is a little nicer!
Jake took these shots while on our horse and buggy tour of the island.

Jake had read that the weather was supposed to be nice and temps in the 70's. Apparently the hotel's weather is about 30 degrees higher then what it actually is. I was laughing as we ran to catch our boat in the freezing cold, totally raining and windy, horrible weather! I was a little nervous to get on the boat in the yucky weather but it was a totally smooth ride and the boys loved it! This is us at a cute little restaurant, shortly after we arrived on the island. We were happy to get out of the cold, wet weather! Which wouldn't have been too bad if I had at least been a little prepared!

Luke insisted on holding this huge umbrella that he kept running into people with!
Apparently this island is also known for their yummy fudge. Luke is enjoying a chocolate covered marshmellow while I was enjoying some of their rocky road fudge!
Guests are taken to their hotel on a horse and buggy ride!
Above is a pic of our tour guide and beautiful horses.
The famous Grand Hotel that we opted not to pay $700+ a night and stay at...maybe next time!
Our boat ride from the island..cold, wet and tired!

I didn't get very many pictures of Colton b/c he was all bundled up the whole time but this is him at our hotel. We actually didn't take a ton of picture b/c we didn't want to get our camera wet. Hopefully next time!

What a cool place Amy. I love how people get taken to their hotel in a horse and buggy. I love how Luke had to carry that umbrella. (That is so funny) I am also now craving chocolate covered marshmellows. Yumm! I am glad that you had a good trip despite the crazy weather.
